Armor Sets and Locations

Armor in TOTK are unbreakable items that up your defense and offer special effects — and of course, fashion. In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you'll find a great variety of armor with a myriad of effects, including attack buffs, improved climbing speed, cold or heat resistance, and many other effects. Most sets of armor have special bonuses when the complete set is worn. Armor is essential equipment, and knowing where to find armor sets and understanding how to make them stronger (spoiler, you do it at Great Fairies!) is essential. Tears of the Kingdom was released in 2025 for the Nintendo Switch 2. We've confirmed that there are no new armor sets added to TotK in the Switch 2 Edition. Looking for more info on everything new added to Tears of the Kingdom for the Switch 2? Check out our Switch 2 Edition guides!

Many pieces of armor can be found extensively exploring the 147 caves of Hyrule, and many more are in The Depths, some with Old Maps found in the Sky pointing to them. This guide includes images and set bonuses of all armor in TotK. By the way, to further increase your defensive capabilities, you may also be interested in How to Increase Your Hearts.

Armor items include caps, tunics, trousers, and unique armor pieces. Each piece of armor has its own base defensive rating that mitigate the hearts you lose when struck by an attack. In addition, some pieces of armor may also provide extra bonuses, like improved climbing speeds and even the ability to swim up waterfalls. These pieces of armor can be found all over Hyrule, and range from being sold in Merchant shops in many of the main settlements in each region, to being hidden away in caves, located in treasure chests placed by Misko, the Legendary Bandit. You will no longer find armor for completing Shrines.

Just as it was in Breath of the Wild, most armor can be upgraded by seeking out the Great Fairy Fountains hiding in Hyrule. By upgrading your individual armor pieces in exchange for materials and rupees, you can increase the defensive capabilities of the armor, and also add unique set bonuses for wearing certain full sets of armor.

Armor Set Bonuses

Collecting all three pieces of an armor set — the legs, body, and head gear — can offer a set bonus, a special buff that only activates when you own and equip all three pieces of the armor set. For example, the Snowquill Armor Set offers Cold Resistance when worn in separate pieces, but if you wear all three, you gain the Unfreezable bonus (which means enemies like Ice Keese cannot freeze Link into a Linksicle!). We've noted Armor Set Bonuses in the list below and on the pages for each Armor Set.
