How to Find Caves

Knowing how to find caves in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will give you access to all manner of valuable resources, from cooking ingredients to weapons, and armor so here’s how to make all caves illuminate across the land of Hyrule, plus a bonus method involving Blupee.

How to Light Up All Caves

There’s a method involving the cherry blossom trees, or Satori Trees, found throughout Hyrule that makes all caves light up, which is the most effective way to find these often hidden locations.

First, find a cherry blossom tree, like this one east of central Hyrule and north of the Romani Plains, just above the Yamiyo Shrine.

Next, approach the altar at the base of the tree and drop a piece of fruit in the bowl. There are usually fruit-bearing plants nearby that you can use. Note that whatever you offer at the altar will disappear, so if you find an Endura Carrot growing near the cherry blossom tree then it’s better to save that rare and valuable item and use something else that's easy to find.

A short cutscene will play where a glowing blue stag known as Satori, Lord of the Mountain will appear and cause all caves to shine a beam of light into the sky.

Now all caves are visible as far as the eye can see. Eventually these cave lights will disappear, and they can be turned on again using the same method. Consider marking the caves on your map so you'll have their location saved after the lights go out.

Follow Blupees to Find Caves

You can find caves by following the glowing blue rabbits known as Blupees.

If you approach a Blupee (or attack it to get some Rupees), then it will scamper off to the nearest cave and disappear. Follow it to find the entrance to a new cave.

Why Caves Are Important

Caves serve a valuable purpose in Tears of the Kingdom, as they were not present in Breath of the Wild. By exploring caves, you can find rare materials not found elsewhere, including Bomb Flowers, Sticky Lizards, Glowcaps and Glowing Cave Fish, and the Brightbloom Seeds needed to lighting your way through the Depths.

You will also likely encounter many mysteries in secrets in caves - as each cave is garunteed to contain a Bubbulfrog, and when hit enough times, it will drop Bubbul Gems that a certain merchant will want in exchange for rare monster parts, masks, and the Mystic Armor Set. As an added bonus, each cave will gain a checkmark on the map if you've found the Bubbulfrog and claimed its gem.

Certain caves may also contain unique chests of armor or weapons, and can also be home to anything from Minibosses like Stone Talus or Hinox, or hidden Shrines that can't be spotted from the surface.

Even after you've explored a cave once, be sure to check back after time has passed for materials and enemies to respawn, giving you a place to find essential items again and again.
