Recommended Gear
The fire that burns within the body of a Flame Gleeok is strong enough to affect the temperature surrounding it, so you need some sort of Flameproof protection before you can safely take one down. If you’re planning on fighting a Flame Gleeok, make sure you take some, if not all, of the following items:
- Flamebreaker Armor Set.- Elixirs or food with a Flameproof buff.- A strong metal bow.- Arrows- Ice Keese Eyeballs- A strong metal melee weapon, preferably with ice damage.
If you try to fight a Flame Gleeok with wooden weapons, it will most likely set them on fire. A good collection of non-flammable weapons is advised.
How to Defeat a Flame Gleeok in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
If you wear all three pieces of the Flamebreaker Armor Set and have upgraded them all twice, you will unlock the Flameproof set bonus. This will stop the Flame Gleeok from setting you on fire, but you will still take physical damage from its attacks.
Flame Gleeoks are some of the most frighteningly strong minibosses in Tears of the Kingdom. They are incredibly huge and equally powerful. If that wasn’t enough, they also fly, making them hard to reach with arrows and near impossible to reach with melee weapons.
A good stock of arrows and Keese Eyeballs make taking down a Gleeok a much smoother ride. It is difficult enough to hit a Flame Gleeok with a Keese Eyeball fused to your arrow, let alone without one. It is possible if you’re a great shot, however, so regular arrows with any sort of ice item would work. While any eyeball is handy, Ice Keese Eyeballs in particular are excellent for use against Flame Gleeoks.
To defeat a Flame Gleeok, you have to hit each of the heads directly in the eye with an arrow. Each of the heads act independently, so it will continue attacking you until you hit all three. Once you do, the Flame Gleeok will fall to the ground, allowing you to rush in and start wailing on its heads with your strongest weapon possible. Ice weapons are great since that is their weakness, but the stronger, the better.
The Gleeok will get up eventually, so you will have to repeat this process a couple of times. But eventually, you will defeat it using this method.
If you are fighting a Flame Gleeok in a grassy area, their attacks can cause updrafts when they set the grass on fire. Use these to your advantage to soar closer to the dragon. Using your bow while gliding makes time slow down, making it much easier to land a shot on one of the dragon's three heads.
Alternative Strategy
Gleeoks are so strong and difficult to reach with anything but arrows, that alternative strategies are few and far between. But if you have a healthy stock of Zonai devices, you could always create some sort of hectic Zonai device to help you take down your Gleeok.
The things you can create with Zonai devices are limited only by your creativity. You can make an incredibly powerful lazerbeam canon with the following items:
- 4x Big Batteries. - 1x Hoverstone. - 1x Stabilizer - 1x Construct Head - As many Beam Emitters as you can muster.
If you attach your Big Batteries to each side of a Hoverstone, place a Stalibizer on top of the Hoverstone, attach a Construct Head to the top of the Stabilizer, then stack as many Beam Emitters as you possibly can on top of the Construct Head, you have yourself an absolutely epic machine that could potentially take down anything in its path. Even a Gleeok.
Attack Patterns
Flame Gleeoks have many different attacks in their repertoire, and they aren’t afraid to use them. They can use any or all of these attacks in varying combinations and sometimes use more than one at once.
The most common attack you can expect to see from a Flame Gleeok is a fiery laser beam. These can be emitted from all three heads at the same time, and they track your movement as you try to run away. If you have mastered the art of Perfect Dodging, this is a perfect time to put those skills to the test, but you can also outrun the lasers the old-fashioned way.
Flame Gleeoks can also shoot fireballs at you during battle. These will set you on fire if you do not have the Flameproof ability, and also take a decent chunk of HP off you. Make sure you dodge the onslaught of fireballs whenever possible by running or jumping out of the line of fire.
Flame Gleeoks are dragons, so it does seem fitting that they are also able to breathe fire. This attack is relatively close-range, so make sure you run as fast as you can in the opposite direction to dodge it.
If you thought the smaller fireballs were bad enough, Flame Gleeoks can also create super-sized versions of this attack. These absolutely massive fireballs are harder to dodge due to their incredible size, but make sure you avoid them at all costs by sprinting to the side as they approach.
The Gleeok’s massive wingspan creates huge gusts of wind that knock you off your feet if you get too close. This happens both in the air and on the ground, so arrows are all but the only way to hit it unless you have a giant Zonai creation on your side.
