Hinox Locations and Guide
The Hinox is a recurring overworld miniboss in Tears of the Kingdom. Though there are close to zero differences from the ones in Breath of the Wild, you can now find them even deepest corners of the Depths. This Hinox guide has been tested by IGN and confirmed to work for all versions of TOTK, including the Tears of the Kingdom Switch 2 Edition released in 2025.
Hinoxes are giant cyclopses that can deal high damage by tossing objects, swiping, or even sitting on their enemies. They come in three different variants: regular (red), Blue, and Black. No matter the color, their weak point is obvious: the single, big eye in the middle of their oversized heads. Fire an arrow at the eye and the Hinox will fall down and can be attacked easily without fear of taking damage. Keese Eyeballs can help add homing capabilities to arrows to make it easier to hit the eye. Repeat this attack procedure to take down the Hinox.

Recommended Gear:
Gear isn’t too important when it comes to toppling the giants, so use whichever set you want, but if you are having trouble, go for something with a solid defense like the Soldiers Armor set or gear to boost your damage like the Barbarian or Fierce Deity armor to take them down a bit faster.
Most weapons are effective against Hinox. Elemental weapons are still effective for damage, but Hinox are resistant to being frozen, shocked, or set ablaze with them. We recommend either fast-hitting weapons or weapons with long range to help avoid counterattacks when the Hinox isn’t knocked down.
As for ranged, any bow will work. You can fuse eyeballs to your arrows to guarantee hits to the Hinox’s eye (weak point) in the earlier parts of the fight and add powerful fusions like bomb flowers and other damage-boosting items like monster parts to take down the lumbering giant faster. Take note that after hitting the Hinox in the eye with a few arrows, it will begin to temporarily cover it with one of his hands, making it a bit more difficult to hit.
Hinox Attacks:
The Hinox has four main attacks. It will throw objects it's holding, either a tree after it has ripped it out of the ground or a rock that it has dug up. These are easy to dodge by sprinting away from your current location, or you can also use recall to send it back at the Hinox for a small amount of damage.
The next attack is its overhead melee strikes, it will use it will ball up one of its fists in an attempt to smash Link. Hinox will also use this while wielding a tree. Simply short hop to the opposite side to dodge it, and if you get the perfect dodge, you can instantly go into a flurry rush to deal some damage.
Its other main melee attack involves the Hinox jumping into the air and doing a butt slam to attempt to crush Link. Simply sprint away or backflip within the dodge window to trigger another opening to use a flurry rush for more damage.
The Hinox also has a headbutt where it will reel its head back and attempt to crush you with its head. Again utilize a backflip at the right time to trigger a flurry rush or simply back away and then make use of the Hinox being off balance to squeeze in a few melee strikes or target its eye with an arrow to knock it down.
It should be noted that while not technically an attack, it will take little stomps if you attempt to stand directly underneath it, which deal damage.
Battle Strategies:
The best strategy for taking down the Hinox involves using your bow to hit it in the eye to send it reeling to the ground in pain, creating a large opening to deal damage with your melee weapons. Keep in mind that after a few shots to its eye, it will begin temporarily covering it with its hand. Simply keep mobile until it lowers its hand and fire a quick shot at its eye to send it to the ground in pain once again. You can also fire a dazzler arrow to blind it even when it's covering its eye.
An alternate strategy you can use to take down the Hinox if you are low on weapons or arrows is to fuse things together like logs or rocks and move/rotate them around in the area, then use recall to rewind the object and lead the Hinox into its path to deal damage. Depending on where you are in the game and what Zonai devices you have at your disposal, you can build some sort of device with various weapons to take it down from afar.
Rewards:
Defeating Hinox will drop a variety of items, including various fruits, Hinox Toenails, a Hinox Horn that grants +12 when fused to a weapon, and a variety of weapons like swords, bows, spears, and more.
