In this guide, we’ll teach you everything you need to know to take down one of these fiery beasts, including how to cool them down and where to find them.

Official Description: This enormous monster is naturally camouflaged as molten rock. Neither sword nor arrow can pierce its fiery form. Merely touching its magma-hot body can burn you pretty badly, but you may be able to scale it if you use something to chill its flames.

Igneo Talus live in the hottest of areas surrounding Death Mountain, so you need to prepare yourself with some pretty serious gear before you can even find one, let alone defeat it. If you’re planning on going head-to-head with an Igneo Talus, make sure you bring some, if not all, of these items with you:

- Flamebreaker Armor Set.- Elixirs or food with a Flame Guard buff.- A strong metal bow.- Arrows.- Ice Fruit or other ice-elemental items.- A strong metal melee weapon, preferably a hammer or ice weapon.

How to Defeat an Igneo Talus in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

If you have all three pieces of the Flamebreaker Armor Set and have upgraded them all twice, you will get the Flameproof set bonus. This renders you immune to the fiery effects of the Igneo Talus, so you don’t have to extinguish it before you climb aboard.

The best way to take down any Talus is to climb up onto its back and attack the ore deposit that you’ll find attached there. Igneo Talus, however, are on fire. This makes them difficult to mount, but not impossible. You just need to extinguish their flames first.

Extinguishing an Igneo Talus is quite simple as long as you come prepared with some sort of ice weapons or items. Keeping your distance from an Igneo Talus is always a good idea, so fusing an Ice Fruit with an arrow and shooting its body is the best way to extinguish it.

While its body is a dark grey color instead of red, hit the ore deposit on its back with an arrow to make it slam its head into the ground. It will stay there for about two seconds, giving you just enough time to mount and attack its ore deposit with a strong weapon.

The fire of an Igneo Talus doesn’t stay out forever and will reignite itself eventually, so you have to work fast. But if you continue repeating this process, you will defeat it in no time.

Alternative Strategy

While mounting a Talus and hitting its ore deposit with a strong melee weapon is the fastest way to defeat one, it is not the only way. You can also whittle down their HP by keeping your distance and hitting the ore deposit with an arrow. If you’re using this method, make sure you don’t use Bomb arrows. The air in Eldin is so hot that they will explode immediately.

Attack Patterns

Igneo Talus don’t really have many tools at their disposal apart from their large, fiery, boulder-like arms, so they are what you need to look out for during the fight. Each arm is extremely heavy and packs a serious punch, lighting you on fire and sending you flying through the air.

Talus cycle through several different attacks that are all very similar. If you’re close to the Talus, it will slam its arms into the ground to crush you. If you’re too far away, it will hurl both arms at you instead, starting with the left one.

Once the Talus has thrown both its arms at you, it will slam its head into the ground to spawn more. This gives you a chance to mount the Talus if it’s extinguished, but can also cause damage if you get caught underneath it.
