Zelda
Princess Zelda is one of the main and titular Characters of The Legend of Zelda series. Often found traveling with her knight and bodyguard Link, Zelda can harness the power of the Goddess to defeat evil.

While the series has had many incarnations of Zelda, this particular version is the same Zelda from Breath of the Wild, which takes place some time before the events of Tears of the Kingdom. Though struggling to find her purpose and destiny in the world, Zelda embraced her abilities to use the power of the Goddess to help defeat Calamity Ganon alongside Link.
Breath of the Wild Biography
As much an archaeologist as she is a Princess, Zelda grew up in Hyrule constantly at odds with her father over he fascination with uncovering the lost Sheikah technology, including the Guardians, the Divine Beasts, and the Sheikah Slate that she personally carried with her in her travels.
The King of Hyrule tried and failed to reign in these tendencies to forsake her duties over her passion for research, and eventually promoted Link to become her bodyguard to keep an eye on her as she traveled to each of the sacred springs across Hyrule to commune with the Goddess. However, her failure to invoke her powers increased her despair, and loathing at Link having to follow her around -- until he helped fight off a Yiga Clan ambush and earned her respect.
At the final sacred spring, her depression at being unable to commune with the Goddess was cut short by the arrival of Calamity Ganon and his corruption of the Guardians all across the land. Link was able to get her to the relative safety of Hateno, but a last stand against the Guardians left him badly wounded as Zelda was finally able to tap into her power to destroy the invading force. With no other options, she had Link put into sleep chamber to recuperate in stasis for the next 100 years, leaving the Sheikah Slate with him as she returned the Master Sword to its resting place, and resolved to use all of her power to keep Calamity Ganon's power at bay until Link could defeat him.
Tears of the Kingdom
Some time has passed since the events of Breath of the Wild, and Zelda is once more traveling in the company of Link. During the exploration of ruins deep under the ground, they come upon the tomb of Ganondorf, the Gerudo King.
However, the magic sealing Ganondorf away is shattered, and as the mummified creature re-awakens, it attacks Link and Zelda, and both are thrown into the depths of the chasm, and it is not yet known what happens to the pair - but both survive.
It seems that Zelda meets a mysterious new figure after these events, and resolves to use the power of the titular Tears of the Kingdom to try and restore the Master Sword to its former glory.
